KECENDERUNGAN NEUROTIK TOKOH UTAMA DALAM CERPEN DARBU AT-TABBANAH
Abstract
This paper discussed the neurotic tendencies experienced by the main character, Farida Badawi, in the short story Darbu at-Tabbanah by Salwa Bakr. Darbu at-Tabbanah had a complex problem that stems from constant fear. The fear experienced by Farida Badawi leads to neurotic tendencies. This research formulates the problems of 1) what are the causes of hostility and basic anxiety, 2) what are the neurotic needs of Farida Badawi, and 3) how neurotic needs affect neurotic tendencies in Farida Badawi. The research used Salwa Bakr Karen Horney's psychoanalytic theory, and used descriptive analysis method supported by prospective case study. The result of the research showed that Farida Badawi experienced basic anxiety caused by her social environment, childhood trauma, and her failure of her marriage. The basic anxiety developed neurotic needs in Farida Badawi and influenced her tendency to stay away from people.
