The maudhui interpretation method is very relevant in contemporary times to answer the problems that occur in society in accordance with the times. Therefore, Muhammad Al-Ghazali developed the method of tafsir maudhui per chapter in the book Nahwa Tafsir Maudhu'I Li Suwar Al-Qur'an. This paper aims to examine the theory of Muhammad Al-Ghazali's maudhui interpretation. In addition, this paper specifically answers the following two questions: What is the background of Muhammad Al-Ghazali's maudhui interpretation theory? How is the concept used in the interpretation of Muhammad Al-Ghazali's maudhui interpretation theory? These two questions are important to show the theory of Muhammad Al-Ghazali's maudhui interpretation which is the novelty of the development of the maudhui interpretation method in the interpretation of the Qur'an. The background of Al-Ghazali developing the theory of tafsir maudhui per surah can be started since he studied the Qur'an from childhood to adulthood. Since then Al-Ghazali began to seriously study the Qur'an and he became convinced that there was a need to interpret the Qur'an seriously, so there was a strong pressure to continue to study the Qur'an in more depth and connect themes, parts of the surah, in order to identify its character and overall content. Muhammad Al-Ghazali used the Maudhui tafsir method per surah, this method emphasizes the discussion of one surah which is done thoroughly and completely by explaining its personal and special purposes, and explaining the relationship between one theme and another theme, so that the surah appears to be a very solid and careful discussion.
