ISLAM RAHMATAN LIL ALAMIN DI MEDIA NAHDLATUL ULAMA DAN MUHAMMADIYAH DALAM ANALISIS FRAMING ROBERT M. ENTMAN

Abstract

This study investigates the significance of Islam as a universal religion encapsulated in the concept of “rahmatan lil’alamin,” emphasizing its role in promoting peace and inclusivity, particularly through the media channels of two prominent Indonesian organizations, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach to comprehensively describe the framing processes utilized by these organizations in their coverage of “Islam Rahmatan Lil’alamin”. The analysis is grounded in Robert M. Entman’s framing theory, which encompasses four key aspects: problem definition, causal diagnosis, moral evaluation, and treatment recommendations. The findings demonstrate that misconceptions about Islam arise from a narrow understanding of its teachings, which are often applied without considering contemporary social contexts. The research highlights the necessity for promoting a more inclusive representation of Islam that fosters societal harmony and unity, suggesting that a deeper engagement with Islamic values can enhance social integration and public perception. Ultimately, the study underscores Islam’s potential to serve as a catalyst for social cohesion in a pluralistic society like Indonesia.
